On November 9, 2016 I woke up depressed, probably like at least half of all Americans. I couldn't believe who we had elected - not me! - as the 45th president of the United States of America. I feared for my country and for my two daughters. After a few numb days I knew I had to do something. I couldn't turn away. This was the new reality. Binging on food, Netflix or social media wouldn't change anything. So I told my husband I was going to invite a few friends over in December to create a grassroots organization, whatever that meant. Then this political newbie sent out an email.
On December 8th twenty-five women showed up in my living room, angry and scared like me. More than half of them were strangers to me and to each other. Friends had invited friends who had invited friends. We spent two hours sharing our frustration and sense of powerlessness. First timers and longtime political activists. Native born and immigrant. All with a deep love of country and a commitment to Do Something. And that's how Women's Alliance Los Angeles was born. ~ Bobbi Rubinstein, Founder
