Women's Alliance Los Angeles (WALA) is a local grassroots political group and member of Indivisible. We have a Facebook group of over 300. While most members live from Calabasas to Sherman Oaks along the Ventura Boulevard in the San Fernando Valley, some WALA members can be found in CA Districts 26, 28, 30, 33, 37 and 43.
We phone/text banked, canvassed in swing districts, wrote postcards to voters, fund raised ($1,000 to Swing Left in 2018 for CA 25 primary winner; $2,000 to Swing Left in 2019 to the winner in the Kentucky Democratic 2020 primary to Ditch Mitch!) & wrote letters with Vote Forward and Swing Left to register new voters in 11 Super States. We wrote 40,000 postcards with Activate America (formerly Flip the West) and Indivisible Chicago Alliance to 14 states for the 2020 presidential and Senate elections. Right after the November 3rd election, we jumped into the special election for the 2 Senate seats in Georgia: Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock, with our pals at Indivisible Chicago Alliance, cranking out another 11,500 postcards.
In addition we visit our legislators’ offices to voice our concerns. We rally, march & attend Town Halls. We participate in the Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count. We form coalitions with organizations such as the Democratic Party & its clubs at the local & state level, the National Women’s Political Caucus/SFV & CA, the Democratic Women’s Council of the Conejo Valley & Indivisible groups in the San Fernando Valley & Los Angeles, as well as environmental groups such as Food & Water Watch & the Center for Biological Diversity.
